Is Juan Uribe Blocking Giovanny Urshela?--EHC Podcast 34

  USATSI
The Cleveland Indians recently signed veteran third baseman Juan Uribe to a one-year, $5 million contract. The move had been rumored for months, and finally came to fruition after Uribe couldn't find a better paying job before having to report to camp this week.

Uribe does provide some pop at the hot corner, having hit 14 dingers last year for the Dodgers, Braves and Mets, with a .253/.320/.417 slash. He also can still flash some leather as he heads towards the twilight of his career. He still seems to be an above-average defender, even though it looks as though he has the same diet as former Indians' starting pitcher, Bartolo Colon.

So...what about Giovanny Urshela?

Urshela seemed to be called up earlier than expected last year, and struggled in his 81 games. Sure, injuries plagued him a bit, but even when healthy, the rookie couldn't seem to find his footing. He carried with him a paltry .225/.279/.330 slash, with six homers in his small sample size, but he looked fantastic defensively, which has always been his calling card.

So, is Uribe a good fit for the Indians, or is he just blocking another youngster trying to find his way?

EverybodyHatesCleveland.com's Jim Pete and Mike Hattery discuss the old man and the kid, and debate whether or not the position is Uribe's for good, or whether or not Gio Urshela still has a chance to take the position away.
