Trading for Seager or Ozuna--EHC Podcast 27

The Cleveland Indians finally pulled the trigger on two moves last week, when the duo of Chris Antonetti and Mike Chernoff signed free agents' Mike Napoli and Rajai Davis to one-year deals. While both moves supplement the starting line-up quite well, neither move seems to be enough to push the Indians into the upper five teams in baseball.

The Indians' rotation appears to be loaded thanks to a 'Big Three' of Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco and Danny Salazar, which has led several teams to contact the Antonetti to gauge their willingness to move one of their pitchers. With Kluber and Carrasco signed to team friendly contracts, and with Danny Salazar under control over the next four years, all have the magic combination of low cost, and multiple years of control. In other words, they could bring in a sizable haul if the right team were to bite.

EHC's Jim Pete and Michael Hattery discuss two such teams in today's podcast. The Los Angeles Dodgers are loaded with an abundance of prospects that could help the Indians in the coming years, and equally need a starter to replace the since-departed Zack Greinke. Greinke signed with the Dodgers division mates, the Arizona Diamondbacks, who also made a deal for the Atlanta Braves Shelby Miller. Likewise, the San Francisco Giants signed both Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija to sizable contracts, which put the Dodgers on notice.

Would the Dodgers give up the type of haul that would turn the heads of Antonetti and Chernoff, or is Andrew Friedman content to let the cards fall where they may this year while waiting for a sterling group of minor league starters to develop? With the Indians likely asking for two top prospects, it could be an interesting watch.

At the same time, the Miami Marlins continue to look to potentially move Jose Fernandez in a rumored move to the Dodgers. With Marcell Ozuna reportedly still on the block, is it possible that the Dodgers, Marlins and Indians could work out a three way deal that would send Fernandez to the Dodgers, Ozuna to the Indians, and prospects to the Marlins?
